WARDOGS classes and leveling

Updated: 7 min read

Does WARDOGS have classes?

Not in the usual sense. You don't pick a class before a match. You buy gear from vendors, and your role follows from what you carry: bandages and medkits make you a medic, a hammer makes you a builder, and a bigger backpack lets you do both. The developers put it this way in the Steam FAQ: "Every role is viable, but roles that play into team play will be the most profitable".

Your XP goes into six role tracks (Progression Track) and into the general WARDOG track (called Career in Season 1):

TrackWhat it is forWhat gives XP (Season 2)
Assaultattacking enemy basesassault rifle kills, C4 and IEDs, destroying buildables, hacking FOBs
Medickeeping the team aliveSMG kills, healing, reviving
Reconscouting and snipingsniper rifle and DMR kills, spotting enemies
Supportbuilding, heavy weaponsbuilding, delivering supplies, shotgun and LMG kills
Driverground vehiclestransporting players and supplies, artillery, repairing ground vehicles
Pilothelicopterstransporting players and supplies, air drops, repairing helicopters

There is no "Engineer" or "Builder" class: building belongs to Support. Driver and Pilot are two separate tracks.

Season 2 moved some XP sources. Destroying buildables, C4 and IEDs now give Assault XP (previously Support), artillery gives Driver XP, and repairs go to Driver or Pilot depending on the vehicle. Older guides that say "repairing = Support XP" are out of date.

WARDOG level, track level and cash

According to players, every level you gain on a role track also adds 1 WARDOG level. The WARDOG track holds items everyone needs, such as Level 3 Helmet & Armor (level 70) and armor piercing (AP) ammo (levels 60–90). If you only play one role, you reach them more slowly. Players recommend getting every track to level 10, because the first levels are cheap.

The second rule: levels grant access, cash unlocks. An example from the Season 2 patch notes: the Molotov Cocktail needs Assault 13 and $25,000. If you have the level but not the cash, the item stays locked.

The Season 2 XP curve

Total XP needed for a role track level, according to the official Season 2 patch notes:

LevelSeason 2 (since Oct 15, 2026)Season 1
1025,00035,000
1554,750110,000
20111,500250,000
25206,600disputed
30318,200disputed
35525,000disputed
40712,500disputed
45920,850disputed
501,150,000disputed

The developers sum it up: "Reaching level 20 now takes less than half the playtime it did in Season 1." Season 1 values from level 25 up appear in two official documents (the September 9, 2026 changelog and the Season 2 patch notes), but their numbers differ, so we don't repeat them here.

Max level: the official table ends at level 50. The highest role unlock in Season 2 is the Three Port Brake at Recon 49, and on the WARDOG track 5.45x39mm Armor Piercing (AP) ammo at level 90. We found no official cap for track levels or the WARDOG level. One player showed WARDOG level 200 after 4,315,811 XP in Season 1.

Key unlocks in Season 2

The Season 2 patch notes don't include full unlock tables, only new and moved items. Here is a selection (track level and unlock cost in brackets):

The Large Hammer was at Support 8 ($75,000) in Season 1, and the Season 2 notes don't change that. Season 2 levels for the L2A6, Havoc, Z20 Lakota and FAL, among others, have not been published officially.

How to level every class fast

Driver. Driver XP comes fastest from pallet delivery streaks with a ground vehicle: 500 XP per pallet, a bonus for every consecutive pallet (+100 XP in the patch notes, streak up to 10) and 50 XP per return trip. So go back for the next load instead of abandoning your vehicle. On October 15, 2026 the developers shipped "Driver Progression Fixes" without any numbers. Players say the streak bonus was reduced, but this is not confirmed. Artillery (SPH-2) and repairing ground vehicles also count towards Driver.

Pilot. An air-dropped supply crate gives 150 XP (small) or 300 XP (large). On top of that you get XP for carrying players and pallets and for repairing helicopters. More in our helicopter guide.

Support. To level Support fast, build in the Control Zone near the towers or at a FOB, ideally with a hammer. Join fresh matches, because after 15–20 minutes the FOBs are already built. With the Large Hammer, go for big structures that take long to build, such as Drill Rigs and Mortars. In Season 2 building costs more, and the Medium Hammer contributes less per swing. Details: building and FOBs.

Medic. Heal and revive, and fight with an SMG. The free Self Resuscitator (Items tab at the Equipment vendor) speeds up reviving. You get the Medical Bag at level 14 and the Defibrillator at 22.

Recon. Spot enemies with Binoculars ($180) or a Monocular ($350): you earn XP when a spotted target dies shortly after. In Season 2, spotting pays around 30% less than in Season 1, but more for valuable targets such as armed vehicles and expensive buildables.

Assault. Besides assault rifle kills you now have new XP sources: C4 and IEDs, destroying buildables (XP is roughly 25% of the cash reward), hacking a FOB (250 XP), destroying a FOB (up to +250 XP) and Capturing a hostile drill tower (300 XP).

Tips for every role:

  1. Combine roles in one life: an SMG, revives and a Monocular earn Medic, Recon and Assault XP at the same time.
  2. Finish the match. Players report an end-of-match XP bonus, but the developers have not described its value.
  3. To start, pick Low-Level or Infantry Mode servers from the DEPLOY menu (since Update 0.1.2).

Is there a daily XP cap?

No. No official document introduces a daily XP limit. Steam threads like "make MAX XP GAIN PER DAY!" are players asking for such a limit, not an existing mechanic. Limits apply to single actions, such as diminishing returns when selling from a crate or buildable rewards that depend on how far the structure was built.

Since Update 0.1.2, abusing repeatable unintended exploits can get you permanently banned without warning. The developers removed the driver exploit and the Lonestar bonus on October 15, 2026. Leveling without tricks is slower, but your account stays safe.

Which class to level first (tier list)

There is no official class tier list, and we found no reliable ranking for Season 2. GameRant (September 12, 2026, Season 1) ranked them like this: 1. Support, 2. Medic, 3. Recon, 4. Assault, 5. Driver/Pilot. It called Support the most versatile, and said Assault is "the worst one to level up because it has zero utility". According to GameRant, Driver and Pilot are highly specialized: important for logistics and vehicle players, less so for infantry.

This is a Season 1 opinion. In Season 2, C4 moved to Assault, Assault got new XP sources and Medic unlocks were reshuffled. Treat this ranking as a starting point, not a fact.

Progress wipe and future seasons

Season 2 wiped progress. "Each season we will have a different XP curve with different item orders", the developers announced before Season 1. On October 17, 2026 they admitted on X that speeding up progression in Season 2 was the wrong call, because some players already have end-game gear. There will be no reset this weekend. Instead, the studio wants to bring Season 3 forward significantly. All changes: Season 2.
