How weapons work
- 7 families, 4 tiers in each: Ordinary, Refined, Masterpiece and Legendary. 28 weapons in total.
- Rose carries one weapon at a time. You swap it from the pause menu: Equipment, then the Armoury. Every weapon you find stays in the Armoury for good.
- There is no blacksmith and no upgrading. You find stronger weapons in chests, get them from bosses or earn them with puzzles. Rose's attack and defense go up with character levels (+1 ATK and +1 DEF per level) and with ATK UP and DEF UP books.
- Every weapon hit restores mana for Arcana spells. How much depends on the family (MP column below).
- The family decides the special move. All 4 weapons of a family share the same move and differ in power. Legendary weapons add an effect of their own.
- The Arcane Whip, the grappling whip you get after the first boss, is an ability, not a weapon. It works with every weapon and gives each family its own lunge attack (the "with Arcane Whip" column).
The 7 weapon families
| Family | Special move | With Arcane Whip | MP per hit | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Whips | the tip of the whip deals extra damage | Whip Drag | 3 | fighting at range, hit with the tip |
| One-Handed Swords | an attack right after a backdash or slide is stronger | Dash Through | 3 | all-round, fast |
| Two-Handed Swords | hold attack, release for a heavy strike | Blade Dive | 5 | big damage, needs an opening |
| Dual Blades | press attack as the previous hit lands to extend the combo | Blade Flurry | 2 | fast rhythm combos |
| Spears | hold attack to aim, release to throw | Push | 3 | attacking from afar, away from traps |
| Fists | the more you hit, the harder you hit | Uppercut | 2 | fighting up close |
| Weapon and Shield | hold attack to block hits from the front | Shield Bash | 4 | careful play with a block |
Move descriptions per Fextralife and Sportskeeda. Game Truth notes that the shield only blocks hits from the front, so you have to face the enemy.
Every weapon and where to find it
The "Power" column is attack power from the Fextralife wiki. MapGenie and IGN use a different scale: every Ordinary weapon has 25, Refined 50, Masterpiece 75, Legendary 100. The game appears to show two different numbers, so compare weapons within one scale.

Locations per Fextralife and Sportskeeda, requirements per MapGenie. Your first weapon in a new family counts toward Jack of All Trades (a weapon from each of the 7 families), and all 28 unlock Armed to the Fangs. According to All Things How, the in-game 100% counter counts 25 weapons, not 28 (map and 100%).
Legendary weapons: how to get each one
Your first legendary weapon unlocks Stuff of Legends. Steam stats show 1.7% of players have it (Oct 16, 2026).
Vampire Killer (whip)
Effect: the tip sets enemies on fire, and defeated enemies burst into flames that hurt anyone nearby.
How to get it: it is a story reward. Beat Death for the second time in Notre-Dame. KeenGamer and Sportskeeda say Rose's father, Trevor, hands it to her in the infirmary in the Deacon's Quarter. All Things How places the fight in the Choir, KeenGamer in the Transept. Both rooms are in Notre-Dame, so you won't miss it if you follow the story.
Excalibur (two-handed sword)
Effect: fires projectiles of pure light. According to Fextralife it has the highest power in the game (44).
- Beat Talos in the Clock Tower. You get The Builder Arcana with the Fist of Talos spell.
- Equip the Fist of Talos spell.
- Go to the Chapel in Notre-Dame, to the sword in the stone altar.
- Keep pressing Interact at the sword until a cutscene starts. The in-game hint is called "Feat of Strength", and your tarot deck glows yellow.
- Beat Arthur (The Brittle King). When he raises his shield, get to his other side. Luminous Anchors above the arena let you swing over him.
Reward: Excalibur and The Brittle King Arcana (Stained-Glass Shield spell). KeenGamer suggests coming back after your first ending; Game Truth mentions no such requirement.
Alucard's Sword and Shield (weapon and shield)
Effect: Rose teleports to the enemy when attacking, and holding attack blocks. Into Indie Games calls it the best weapon in the game. Dengo's YouTube video on how to get it has more than 45,000 views.
- In the Main Hall, in the Entrance Corridor, find Alucard's portrait next to a hidden red door.
- Jump into the portrait to its right and keep climbing through the Armoury, Archives, Path of the Cockroach and Dungeon toward the north door of the Grand Hall.
- Hit the ceiling gear until the upper passage opens. Go right and up to the Alucard portrait pointing upward, and enter the secret passage above it.
- Put out the 5 blue flames: two in the staircase room (upper-left and upper-right braziers), two in the Bridge of Knowledge (by the desk and by the portrait), and the fifth in a lower chamber. Drop into it from the other side of the Bridge of Knowledge and swing right on the Luminous Anchors.
- Go back to Alucard's room and open the chest.
The nearest mirror is Ballrooms in the Main Hall. Steps per Game Truth and Into Indie Games.
War and Famine (dual blades)
Effect: the last hit of the combo creates a zone on the ground that boosts your damage while you stand in it.
How to get it (per All Things How): under the organ in the Great Organ Room in Notre-Dame there are 14 zodiac floor keys. You read the order from the number of candles under the zodiac windows in the Stained Glass Gallery (Sealed Scriptorium). A commonly reported order is Moon, Libra, Scorpio, Aquarius, Capricorn, Virgo, Sun, Leo, Cancer, Aries, but the authors note that candle counts can differ between saves, so check yours. Then drop through the hatch under the stairs into the vault. You need the air dash (Aerial Rush). This is a separate puzzle, not the story puzzle with three organ melodies.
Chauve-Souris (spear)
Effect: when thrown, the spear homes in on two targets in a row and pierces enemies along the way.
How to get it: in the Heart of the Clock (Clock Tower), in the room where you fight Isaac (The Zealot) for the second time. The first Isaac fight, on the bridge, is an illusion and gives nothing.
Bernhard's Wrath (fists)
Effect: heals Rose as the combo grows, and damage also ramps up with every hit.
- In the Hall of Mirrors, go to the level on the left side of the map (sources call it "Delived Level"). The Descent Into Memory mirror is your save point.
- Break the wall in the Looping Hallways. The clue "Kneeling is the Way" is behind it.
- Stand in front of the transition mirror on that level and kneel (hold down). The mirror takes you to the hidden Level Deviled on the east side.
- Clear the arena (werewolves, knights, flying swords, skeletons) and open the chest.
Steps per Game Truth. Kneeling at mirrors is also how fast travel works: fast travel.
Valmanway (one-handed sword)
Effect: after a short delay, every attack hits a second time (a wind-infused blade). Fextralife lists its power at only 21, lower than Joyeuse.
How to get it: from Saint Louis in the Palace of Justice (Paris Streets), per Fextralife and Sportskeeda. Saint Louis wakes up once you balance the Scales of Justice by the tree. MapGenie adds that you need at least half of the Heart Fragments (Brave and Wise Heart) from Paris for that. It is the same scene that unlocks The King is dead, long live the King.
Which weapon to use
Players haven't settled on a single "best" weapon yet; the game has only been out since October 15. What guide writers say:
- Alucard's Sword and Shield: Into Indie Games rates it the best, because it combines a block with a teleport to the enemy.
- Vampire Killer: TheGamer and All Things How call it the best whip. With a whip equipped you can also get True Belmont (kill an enemy with The Fallen's Arcana spell).
- Excalibur: the highest power in the game according to Fextralife.
Early on, before the legendaries, try every family. They differ more in style than in power: fists and dual blades give the least mana per hit (2), two-handed swords the most (5). That matters if you like Arcana spells.
Bosses that drop weapons and Arcana: all bosses. Weapon achievements: achievements.
