What the Deluxe Edition includes
Frontier sells Planet Zoo 2 in two editions: Standard and Deluxe. There is no "Ultimate" or collector's edition and no season pass.
The Deluxe Edition is the base game plus the Deluxe Upgrade Pack add-on. The pack contains two things:
| Item | What it is |
|---|---|
| 6 additional species | Golden Eagle, Golden Lion Tamarin, Great Hammerhead, Axolotl, Blue and Gold Fusilier, Longfin Batfish |
| Exclusive Animal Signs | animal signs as decoration (scenery), with no effect on gameplay |
Frontier has not said how many signs there are or what they look like. Deluxe does not unlock a mode, a map or a mechanic. The official Zoopedia lists 136 species: 130 from the base game and 6 with a "deluxe" badge. You can find the full list in our article all animals in Planet Zoo 2.
The soundtrack is not part of Deluxe. It is a separate DLC on Steam for $9.99 (35.99 zł in Poland).
Deluxe vs Standard: prices by region
Steam prices from October 18, 2026, with no discounts. The "difference" column is our own calculation.

Frontier's recommended price is the same as on Steam in the USA, the EU and the UK. On PS5 and Xbox in the USA the Upgrade Pack also costs $17.99.
Per species: the Deluxe surcharge works out to about $2.50 per animal in the USA (10.83 zł in Poland), and the separate Upgrade Pack to about $3.00 per species (12.83 zł).
The 6 Deluxe species
Data from the official Zoopedia pages (as of October 18, 2026). Frontier corrects the Zoopedia in patches, so the numbers may change.
| Species (in game) | Latin name | Where you keep it | Conservation status | Minimum requirements | Food cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Golden Eagle | Aquila chrysaetos | aviary (flying bird) | Least Concern | land 400 m², shelter 10 m², flight area 50 m², 1–2 animals | $775 |
| Golden Lion Tamarin | Leontopithecus rosalia | land habitat | Endangered | land 55 m², shelter 2 m², climbable area 15 m², group of 2–8 | $317 |
| Great Hammerhead | Sphyrna mokarran | aquarium | Critically Endangered | deep water 960 m², salt water, 1–2 animals | $1,064 |
| Axolotl | Ambystoma mexicanum | exhibit | Critically Endangered | water 15–20°C, humidity 80–90%, group of 1–5 | $225 |
| Blue and Gold Fusilier | Caesio teres | aquarium or exhibit, shoal | Least Concern | deep water 50 m², salt water, group of 1–4 | $125 |
| Longfin Batfish | Platax pinnatus | aquarium, shoal | Least Concern | deep water 100 m², salt water, group of 1–5 | $130 |
Food cost is the "Periodic Food Expenses" field from the Zoopedia.
Golden Eagle covers biomes from desert to tundra in the game and tolerates −30°C to 30°C. It is Shy and monogamous, and guests cannot walk through its habitat.
Golden Lion Tamarin lives in the Tropical biome in groups of up to 8, and guests can walk through its habitat. It has neutral relationships with the Ring-Tailed Lemur and the Toco Toucan. One player noticed that the tamarin reuses the lemur's animation rig, so it holds its tail in a ring shape.
Great Hammerhead has the biggest requirement of the six: 960 m² of deep water. The Zoopedia warns that larger sharks may attack, kill and eat smaller individuals. More about building tanks in our aquariums and fish guide.
Axolotl needs cool water (15–20°C) and high humidity. According to the Zoopedia it has no compatible species.
Blue and Gold Fusilier and Longfin Batfish are shoaling reef fish. They can share a tank with each other and with 10 other reef species, including the Clown Anemonefish and the Yellow Tang.
Can you buy the Upgrade Pack later?
Yes. Since launch the Deluxe Upgrade Pack has been a separate DLC on every platform: Steam ($17.99), PlayStation Store and Xbox Store ($17.99 in the USA). It requires the base game.
Buying it separately costs a little more than the ready-made Deluxe Edition:
| Poland | USA | EU | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard + Upgrade Pack separately | 291.98 zł | $67.98 | €67.98 |
| Deluxe Edition right away | 279.99 zł | $64.99 | €64.99 |
| Extra cost of buying in two steps | 11.99 zł | $2.99 | €2.99 |
You cannot buy individual Deluxe species. There is only the full pack of six. Without it the game shows the message "Please purchase the deluxe edition upgrade pack to access this animal".
Older guides say the Upgrade Pack is not sold separately. That was true before October 13, 2026. Since launch the add-on has been in the stores.
The preorder bonus is not in Deluxe
The Bonus Content Pack is the preorder reward:
- Toucan Eat Shop and Signage,
- 3 Unique Animal Donation Bins,
- Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall.
Frontier included it with preorders of every edition until launch, which was October 13, 2026, 16:00 CEST (3 PM BST). The Steam Deluxe Edition bundle and the current Deluxe Edition on the Xbox Store contain only the game and the Upgrade Pack. The bonus is now a separate paid DLC: $2.99, €2.99, £1.99 or 12.49 zł.
If you preordered the game and cannot see the tiger photo wall, turn off the Essentials filter in the object browser. It shows only objects with a function. Also check that the DLC is ticked in the game's properties in your Steam library.
Season pass and future DLC
There is no season pass in any store (Steam, PS Store, Xbox Store). Steam has exactly 3 add-ons: the Deluxe Upgrade Pack, the Bonus Content Pack and the soundtrack.
Frontier has not announced a paid DLC plan. Its FAQ says the team is focused on launch and does not "have anything to share regarding future content". Before launch the studio wrote that the game "will continue to grow over time", with more species in the future. The notes for patch 1.0.5 list only fixes as priorities, with no word about add-ons.
The "you don't have the DLC" bug for Deluxe owners
After launch some Deluxe players saw the Zoopedia message "You don't have access to the DLC pack containing this animal". One of them said he could still buy these animals on the market, so it looked like a display bug only.
Patch 1.0.5 from October 16, 2026 includes a fix: "Fixed Zoopedia incorrectly marking DLC animals as inaccessible for DLC owners". Even so, on October 17 and 18 Steam reviews still contained reports such as "90% I'm told I don't have the deluxe DLC pack when I do" or "animals from deluxe are not in the game". Frontier has not confirmed that the problem is fully solved.
If you own Deluxe and the game does not give you the six species, update to 1.0.5 and check that the add-on is enabled in your Steam library. We collect other known problems in our article Planet Zoo 2 bugs and known issues.
What players say
We took the 900 newest English reviews on Steam (October 16–18, 2026). 30 of them mention Deluxe or the Upgrade Pack: 25 negative and 5 positive. The game as a whole has 63% positive reviews across all languages (rated "Mixed").
The criticism is mostly about the price. Players say $17.99 for six animals is a lot, and one put it this way: "this is a zoo game, the animals are the game". Another thinks he would have been better off with the Standard Edition, because many popular species from the first game unlock only at a higher accreditation anyway. Several Deluxe buyers complain not about the contents but about the game's stability after launch.
There are happy buyers too. "Price-wise, I am comfortable with what I spent on the Deluxe edition", one player writes. Under the game's announcement on Reddit, fans were especially excited about the hammerhead.
Who should buy Deluxe and who should buy Standard
| Get Deluxe if | Stay with Standard if |
|---|---|
| you want these six species, for example the hammerhead or the axolotl | you expect a new mode, map or mechanic (Deluxe has none) |
| you plan to get the Upgrade Pack anyway: you save $2.99 right away | you want to try the game first: its Steam rating is "Mixed" |
| you like building aquariums (3 of the 6 species are fish and a shark) | the 130 species in the base game are enough for you |
| you want the tamarin: players say it is the only monkey in the game apart from the great apes | you prefer to wait out the reports of the DLC access bug |
Your first choice is not final. If you buy Standard, you can add the same species later, and the cost of waiting is $2.99. For how to start the game, see our beginner's guide, and for unlocking animals, our article on accreditation and Conservation Credits.
