Where the game exists and where it does not
| Platform | Available? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Windows) | Yes | Steam, standalone client and Epic Games Store; shared trade market |
| Mac | Yes | Steam and standalone; for version 3.27 the wiki says both clients work, with minor issues |
| PlayStation 5 | Yes | Native client since September 18, 2024, a separate listing in the PlayStation Store |
| PlayStation 4 | Yes | Separate client |
| Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One | Yes | Native Series clients since version 3.24.3 |
| Steam Deck | Yes, "Playable" | Valve status as of October 17, 2026 |
| Nintendo Switch | No | No version and no announcement |
| Mobile (Android, iOS) | No | Cloud streaming only |
The game has been free to play since 2013. You only pay for cosmetics and extra stash tabs. Your account and store are shared with GGG's other game, but it is a separate title: PoE 1 or PoE 2.
PC and Mac
On PC you have three entry points: Steam, the standalone client from pathofexile.com, and the Epic Games Store. Steam and standalone connect to the same servers. Steam can be region-locked, in which case the wiki suggests the standalone client. You can link your Steam account to your Path of Exile account, with no character conversion.
Both stores agree on the rest of the Windows requirements: Windows 10, DirectX 11, 40 GB of space, a 2.6 GHz quad-core processor, and a GTX 650 Ti or Radeon HD 7850 as the minimum. RAM is disputed:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM, GTX 1050 Ti or RX 560 graphics card, SSD |
| Epic | 4 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |
The sources differ, so aim for the Steam numbers. Both stores recommend an SSD.
On Mac, Steam lists official requirements: macOS 10.13 minimum, an Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a Radeon Pro 450 and 40 GB. GGG does not publish requirements for Apple Silicon (M1 and newer) on the pages we checked. According to the wiki, the Mac clients had serious problems in versions 3.25 and 3.26, and in 3.27 they "are functional again". Players on the GGG forum still reported crashes there, so check the threads after big patches.
The wiki also describes a workaround: running the Windows client on a Mac through Sikarugir or CrossOver. A recommended M-chip Mac has at least 16 GB of memory and macOS Sonoma 14.0. The author of that guide warns that base-model Macs may run the game poorly, if at all. In that case, GeForce NOW is what remains.
PlayStation and Xbox
PS5 has a native client: it is a separate version that you search for in the PlayStation Store. Do not mix it up with the PS4 version when downloading. PS4 trophies unlock automatically when you log in. Xbox has versions for Xbox One and Series X|S.
The PlayStation Store says: "Full game requires PlayStation Plus membership to access online multiplayer". However, we do not know whether that sentence applies to PoE 1 itself (the same page also lists a PoE 2 pack). Check it in the store before buying. The Xbox page does not state a subscription requirement for PoE 1.
On console you play with a controller. The wiki states that mouse and keyboard mode is not supported and that buttons cannot be rebound (data from 3.24, may be out of date).
Cross-play and trade. PoE 1 has no cross-play and no cross-progression with PC. The wiki notes that consoles cannot trade with PC realms. GGG has made no official "this will never happen" statement, but every source says the same thing. After the Mercenaries league ended, GGG disabled the old console market, and trade now works within the console.
League launches. GGG announced 3.29 "on PC and Consoles" for the same day, July 24. Delays have happened, though: in 3.26 (June 2025) the console clients waited for certification, and GGG spoke of 4–14 hours. GGG has not yet given a console time for league 3.30 (November 13): league 3.30.
Steam Deck
Valve rates Path of Exile 1 as "Playable". In its test it warns that the interface text is not legible. The controller configuration, button glyphs and performance passed. The game has no official Linux support, and the wiki says it runs through Proton. We have no verified recommended graphics settings, so we do not list any.
Nintendo Switch
PoE 1 is not on Switch or Switch 2, and GGG has not announced such a version. Jonathan Rogers, the PoE 2 director, said in August 2025: "There certainly aren't any plans." The interview was about PoE 2, not the first game, but the direction is clear.
Mobile
There is no native app. GGG announced "Path of Exile Mobile" in 2019, but the game has not been released and has no release date. The pathofexile.com/mobile page returns a 404 error today. Media reported in May 2026 that this is a pause rather than a cancellation, but GGG has not confirmed it in any source we know of.
On a phone you can only play through streaming. According to Cloudbase.gg (July 25, 2026), PoE 1 runs on GeForce NOW, which supports the Steam, Epic and GGG client versions. The free plan is 1080p at 60 FPS with sessions of up to one hour. Xbox Cloud Gaming does not have this game. The wiki guide about GeForce NOW adds that updates can lag a few hours behind GGG's launch and that you cannot use third-party apps.
PoE 2 in brief
The second game is a different game: it has PC and console cross-play, Steam Deck "Verified", and no official Mac version. Version 1.0 launches on December 11, 2026. AFK Times has a separate guide for it.
