Where these builds come from
Launch multiplayer is not live yet: early access only covers the campaign (from October 16, 2026) and DMZ (from October 20, 2026). That is why every build in this guide comes from the beta: Weekend One ran from August 21 to 25, 2026, and the Open Beta from August 28 to September 1, 2026.
- The beta had 22 of the 33 weapons available at launch.
- Beta progress (level, unlocked weapons) does not carry over to the full game, only cosmetic rewards do.
- In the beta, Create a Class unlocked at Player Level 4. You can have up to 12 custom loadouts.
We list the source date for every build: on August 28, 2026 Infinity Ward lengthened the TTK (time to kill) of every beta weapon, so builds from the first weekend predate that change.
Beta meta: the best weapons

| Oris 8.6 | Marksman Rifle | IGN #3, WZRanked S, but Dexerto C |
Best M4 build (m4 build)
The M4 unlocks at Player Rank 9. It has 68 weapon levels, and its Apex is the M4 Hurricane: a top-fed version chambered in 5.7x28mm with a high rate of fire.
| Slot | IGN: run-and-gun (August 29) | CODMunity: Versatile (August 28) | esports.gg: mid and long range (August 21) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muzzle | FSS IS300 | FSS IS300 | ZLR Reverb90 |
| Barrel | – | – | 18″ LE Crosswind |
| Underbarrel | FSS Fireline Grip | FSS Fireline Grip | FSS Fireline Grip |
| Rear Grip | – | Brace DX Grip | – |
| Stock | No Stock (before that: Demo Dozer Stock) | PF1 Fixed Stock | Demo Dozer Stock |
| Laser | SZ Gen.6 PEQ (or SA LAZ-500) | SA LAZ-500 | – |
| Optic | – | – | Slimline Elite |
| Ammunition | Frangible (see note) | – | – |
IGN lists "9MM Parabellum Frangible", but CODMunity's M4 attachment list has no 9mm ammo (it does have 5.56 NATO Frangible, among others). Check the name in game.
Across the five M4 builds we collected (including WZRanked and Nintendo Life), the FSS Fireline Grip appears in four, and the FSS IS300 and SA LAZ-500 in three. Once the weapon is maxed, CODMunity pairs the M4 Hurricane Apex with 5.7x28mm Overpressured ammo, Slimline Elite, FSS IS300, Hurricane Stock and SA LAZ-500.
Best ISO Nightshade build (iso build)
The ISO Nightshade is available from the start. It has 56 weapon levels, and the ISO Trace Apex adds RFID ammo: it tags enemies you hit and shows their movement on your sight. GamesRadar+ called it the "most dominant weapon, even after several nerfs".
| Slot | IGN (August 24) | WZRanked (August 30) | Nintendo Life (August 24) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muzzle | FSS Crackdown | FSS Crackdown | FSS Crackdown |
| Barrel | ZLR Carbon-900 | ZLR Carbon-900 | ZLR MAG-Z 9″ |
| Laser | Schlager Visiv-5 | Schlager Visiv-5 | Expedite Squad-304 |
| Stock | GI-80 Milspec Stock (or No Stock) | No Stock | – |
| Rear Grip | – | Demo STP-1 | Demo STP-1 |
| Underbarrel | – | – | FSS TAC90 Grip |
| Ammunition | 9MM Parabellum Frangible | – | – |
The FSS Crackdown is in all three builds. If you do not want a visible laser, IGN suggests the XRK Clutch-LS instead of the Schlager Visiv-5.
PPSh-41 build (ppsh build)
The PPSh-41 unlocks at Player Rank 11. It has 54 weapon levels, and the official description praises its "best-in-class rate of fire". The PPSH-41 EMBER Apex is an underbarrel incendiary launcher.
| Slot | WZRanked (August 29) | Nintendo Life: hipfire (August 24) |
|---|---|---|
| Muzzle | L980-S Comp | – |
| Barrel | Hanbit RDR-Tiger 50 | Hanbit Chimmuk-Intr |
| Underbarrel | FSS Fireline Grip | Mire-50 TAC Grip |
| Stock | Hanbit RDW7-F | Hanbit RDW-F |
| Magazine | 53 Round Mag | 53 Round Mag |
| Laser | – | XRK Clutch-LS |
The sources spell the stock differently (RDW7-F or RDW-F). A hipfire build makes sense because the beta had no random hipfire spread (hipfire bloom).
Rezi 12 shotgun build (shotgun build)
The beta had only one shotgun: the semi-auto Rezi 12. In the first weekend it got one-shot kills from around 25 m (JGOD), so it received two range nerfs: on August 28, 2026 for buckshot and slugs (Rezi Slug Ammo: Min Damage 55 → 48), and on August 31, 2026 for barrels (for example Haebang 635R-7 from +25% to +19%).
| Slot | WZRanked: slug with Apex (September 1, after the nerfs) |
|---|---|
| Muzzle | Haebang Bulsae-10 (Choke) |
| Laser | Schlager Visiv-5 |
| Stock | No Stock |
| Rear Grip | XRK Bygone-39 |
| Ammunition | 12 Gauge Slug |
| Apex | REZI 12 ENFORCER |
Goomie, a shotgun-focused creator, calls the slug Rezi 12 a "close-range marksman rifle". He recommends No Stock, a barrel with a bigger tube magazine and iron sights, plus a choke or a suppressor. He rated the pump-action Enforcer Apex version as "significantly better".
Sniper: KG-7 Vulcan build
The KG-7 Vulcan is available from the start. It has 72 weapon levels, and the KG-9 DRILLCHARGE Apex adds drill charges. GamesRadar+ rates it the best sniper of the beta: fast bolt cycling, quickscopes and one-shot kills to the chest.
| Slot | Nintendo Life (August 24) | WZRanked (August 30) |
|---|---|---|
| Barrel | Haebang Naseon v.5 26″ | Haebang Naseon V.5 26″ |
| Optic | KV Corsac Holo | Corvus Avis-0 |
| Comb | TT Type 40 Comb | Haebang YNC-45 |
| Magazine | 6 Round Mag | – |
| Laser | XRK Clutch-LS (for quickscopes) | – |
| Bolt | – | KT76 Light Bolt |
| Stock | – | TT G76-RP Stock |
Best class: perks, equipment and killstreaks (best class)
For its M4 and ISO Nightshade builds, IGN uses this class (beta):
| Class slot | IGN pick |
|---|---|
| Secondary | Krait P68 or PILA |
| Melee | Combat Knife |
| Tactical | Flash Grenade |
| Lethal | Semtex (official beta list: Sticky Grenade) |
| Field Upgrade | Seeker Drone |
| Perks | Ninja / Fast Hands / Blood Rush (not together at launch, see below) |
| Killstreaks | Bomb Glider / Artillery Beacon or Crossfire / Wheelson (with the ISO: Attack Helicopter) |
Ninja and Blood Rush worked together in the beta, but most likely will not at launch. Infinity Ward said Blood Rush will "compete" with Ninja. You will only be able to combine them with the Specialist perk, which is due very soon after launch.
Perk sets without Ninja (Nintendo Life, beta):
| Weapon | Perks |
|---|---|
| ISO Nightshade, PPSh-41 | Quick Fix / Fast Hands / Blood Rush |
| M4 | Quick Fix / Bomb Squad / Blood Rush |
| KG-7 Vulcan | High Alert / Fast Hands / Lethal Reach |
The beta used a "Pick 3" system: one perk from each of the three slots. After the beta, Infinity Ward announced a new perk layout ("Adjusting Perk tiers"), so the slots may look different at launch. Where to test it all: multiplayer maps and modes.
What changes at launch on October 23, 2026
In The Ward Room Ep. 01 (September 28, 2026), Infinity Ward announced:
- SMGs will be stronger ("pretty much buffed across the board"), and weapons that kill in one shot ("one shot weapons") weaker. The rest of the TTK should stay close to Weekend Two.
- Blood Rush keeps Tactical Sprint, now without sprint-to-fire penalties.
- Blood Rush and Ninja cannot go in the same class. The Specialist perk, which will let you combine them, arrives soon after launch (no date yet).
- Battle Hardened gets a buff.
For builds, this means the ISO Nightshade and PPSh-41 may get better, while the slug Rezi 12, KG-7 Vulcan and Oris 8.6 may lose out. That is our reading of the announcements, not of numbers: as of October 19, 2026 the launch patch notes have not been published. Launch times: release date and editions.
After launch on October 23, 2026, we will test the builds in the full game and update the tables in this guide.
Weapon build codes in MW4
As of October 19, 2026, Infinity Ward has not confirmed weapon build codes for Modern Warfare 4. The official beta descriptions of Gunsmith and Gunny do not mention codes or build sharing at all.
Weapon build codes ("Weapon Build Code") are a Black Ops 7 feature (Treyarch, 2025): there, the code is shown in Gunsmith, and you can import it ("Import Weapon Build") or send it to a friend ("Share Weapon Build").
"Codes" tagged #MW4 are circulating on social media. They use the Black Ops 7 format, and some are for Black Ops 7 weapons such as the MPC-25 or Peacekeeper. They are not MW4 codes, which is why we do not publish any codes.
Instead of codes, MW4 has Gunny (below). After launch we will check Gunsmith to see whether codes have been added.
Gunsmith, Gunny and Apex: building faster
- Every attachment unlocks once and is then available on every weapon that supports it. A weapon level that would give you an attachment you already own is skipped ("Bonus Level Up").
- Apex Attachments unlock when you max out a weapon. An Apex does not take an attachment slot and gives a unique effect.
- Gunny builds a loadout from attachments you already own with one button, in Short Range, Balanced and Long Range profiles. According to IGN, you open it in Gunsmith with R2 / RT / 2.
Every build in our sources uses 5 regular attachments plus an optional Apex.
