List of the 9 new dungeons
Kaivax from Blizzard posted the full list with level ranges on the forums on September 15, 2026. We treat those ranges as official. Icy Veins, Wowhead and the beta notes sometimes give other numbers: we collected them in the last column.
| Dungeon | Levels (Blizzard) | Where | In the beta | Other ranges |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Hall of Thanes | 13–18 | beneath Ironforge, in Old Ironforge under the Throne Room | since the beta started | Icy Veins: 13–20 |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | 15–20 | Undercity, to the left of the entrance to the Ruins of Lordaeron | since the beta started | Icy Veins: 15–22 |
| Excavation Site: Wetlands | 24–29 | Wetlands, above Whelgar's Excavation | since October 1, 2026 | Icy Veins: 26–33; beta notes: 26–31 |
| City of Dalaran | 28–33 | Dalaran in Alterac Mountains | since October 8, 2026 | Icy Veins: 28–35; Wowhead text: 20–35 |
| The Drowned City | 35–40 | ancient troll ruins off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale | no (it was in the BlizzCon demo) | – |
| Krol'dok Stronghold | 40–45 | the new Riverglades zone | no | Wowhead text: 40–55 |
| Alcaz Prison | 48–53 | Alcaz Island, far northeast of Dustwallow Marsh | no | – |
| Blackmaw Hold | 55–60 | the furbolg city beyond the Furbolg Gates in northern Azshara | no | – |
| Shaper's Terrace | 58–60 | Un'Goro Crater | no | – |
For Krol'dok Stronghold, Kaivax explicitly corrected the range to 40–45, not the wider one shown at BlizzCon. Wowhead's own table uses the same numbers as Blizzard (28–33 and 40–45); only its article text differs.
The beta level cap is 30, so only the first four dungeons can be played. For the other five, all we know is what Blizzard showed at BlizzCon. Their maps and bosses are not in the beta client yet.
Each dungeon in brief
- The Hall of Thanes: the first Alliance dungeon, the counterpart of Ragefire Chasm for the Horde. Dark Iron Dwarves have taken over the resting place of Ironforge's old kings. Wowhead places the entrance by the High Seat (43, 51).
- Ruins of Lordaeron: the upper part of Undercity, to be cleansed of the Scourge. You free souls and kill a necromancer. The dungeon has a new lighting system: you see less in dark areas, so it pays to pull enemies into the light.
- Excavation Site: Wetlands: a lost dwarven expedition. Enemies hide in the tall grass.
- City of Dalaran: the barrier around the city has fallen and the Kirin Tor have lost control of it.
- The Drowned City: ancient troll ruins ruled by naga and pirates.
- Krol'dok Stronghold: a troll-themed stronghold in the new Riverglades zone.
- Alcaz Prison: a prison on Alcaz Island.
- Blackmaw Hold: the "Great Furbolg City", with "unsettling corruption" in its depths.
- Shaper's Terrace: titan mysteries in Un'Goro Crater.
The dungeons sit in one faction's territory, but both factions can enter. Only the number of quests differs. According to Icy Veins, 3 of the 5 quests in Hall of Thanes are Alliance only. Ruins of Lordaeron has 10 quests (6 Horde, 4 Alliance), and Excavation Site has 8 (5 Alliance, 3 Horde).
Bosses and boss drops in the beta dungeons
Boss and item names come from the Icy Veins guides. This is a beta, so loot can still change. Fan sites that pull data from the game client sometimes list different names: we note that next to the boss.
The Hall of Thanes (4 bosses)
| Boss | Watch out for | Drops |
|---|---|---|
| Faldrim Anvilmar | interrupt Mind Blast; Anvilmar's Curse slows the tank's attacks | Aetherwisp Bracers, Spiritwraith Drape, Ephemeral Choker |
| Magmatus | fights alongside a Dark Iron Summoner; Fire Nova, Combustion | Flamefist Grips, Kindlegem Girdle, Fang of Magmatus |
| Plunder | knockback | Golemguard Chest, Treads of the Protector Golem, Golemheart Stave |
| Durgen Dirgehammer | final boss, with two Lesser Stone Golems | Robes of the Disgraced Thane, Direhammer Leggings, Durgen's Crescent Axe |
Client data lists a boss called Infurnus in Magmatus's place. Which name makes it into the game will be clear at launch. Players in the Wowhead comments list these quests: An Ancient Grudge, Important Heirlooms, Old Ironforge Incursion and The Restless Dead.
Ruins of Lordaeron (6 bosses plus a rare boss)
| Boss | Watch out for | Drops |
|---|---|---|
| Witherfang | spider in King's Alley, poison on the tank | Witherbite Bracers, Atrophic Girdle, Segmented Spider Leg |
| The Baron | Cleave, a knockback that reduces threat | Leftover Abomination Skin, Abomination Bones, Meathook Slicer |
| Viktor the Vile | event: use the Grim Campfire in the fireplace, then waves of skeletons | Bloodied Chestwraps, Vilewalkers, Vileblood Scimitar |
| The Abandoned | – | Rotmender's Leggings, Grip of Fear, Scepter of the Abandoned |
| Bjork | – | Tuskwrap Belt, Bonerust Leggings, Corpse Chopper |
| Rath'mael | – | Rotmender's Treads, Mirror of Rath'mael, Coldspire Staff |
| Lordaeron Captain (rare) | – | Phantom Armor, Haunting Blade |
Client data counts 7 bosses here and lists The Butcher instead of The Baron.
Excavation Site: Wetlands (3 bosses)
| Boss | Watch out for | Drops |
|---|---|---|
| Saltspine | fight on the lake; Dust Storm lowers hit chance by 25% in melee range, Tendon Rip | Glinteye Slippers, Supple Bellyskin Leggings, Saltscale Girdle |
| Shadetooth | the hardest: 2 Thicket Hunters with Infected Wound, raptors hidden in the bushes, AoE Fear, Rend, Enrage at 30% | Garb of Florid Feathers, Raptorclaw Greaves, Raptor's Gaze, Blueprint: Greenhouse (Herbalism recipe) |
| Relic Guardian | you activate it at the Archival Panel; knockbacks, stuns, Thunderclap | Reliquary Mantle, Ring of Power Regulation, Golemsight Long Gun |
Icy Veins describes 3 bosses, while client data has a fourth: Highland Horror. Beta players also reported on the forums that nothing in this dungeon could be skinned (Skinning).
City of Dalaran
Icy Veins has no Dalaran guide yet. Client data lists 9 enemies, including Shade of the Archmage, Atrexis the Grave Knight and Lyn the Ignored. Blizzard has not published a boss list. In the beta notes it only mentioned faction adjustments: enemies now spawn just outside the city entrance. On October 16, 2026 it fixed a bug that let the Horde gain Kirin Tor reputation.
Nobody knows the bosses and loot of the other five dungeons yet.
What changed in the old dungeons
The old Classic dungeons stay. According to Blizzard's video (summarised by Icy Veins), their XP rewards, boss loot and quest rewards were reworked. At the Hardcore panel Blizzard promised "better drops from dungeons".
Changes from the beta notes:
- October 1, 2026: dungeon quests give 50% less bonus XP;
- October 1, 2026: Blacksmithing and Leatherworking recipes drop randomly in dungeons;
- October 8, 2026: XP from dungeon monsters went up by about 20%, and XP is calculated as in Classic Era (only from your own level, not the highest level in the group);
- October 8, 2026: some dungeon quest rewards were lowered from Rare to Uncommon.
In total there are 35 dungeons in 28 instances (wings counted separately), from level 13 to 60 (Icy Veins, October 7, 2026). Blizzard has not published ranges for the old dungeons, and the databases disagree:
| Dungeon | Icy Veins | Wowhead |
|---|---|---|
| Ragefire Chasm | 13–18 | 13–18 |
| Wailing Caverns | 15–24 | 15–25 |
| The Deadmines | 17–26 | 18–23 |
| Shadowfang Keep | 20–30 | 22–30 |
| Blackfathom Deeps, The Stockade | 24–32 | – |
| Gnomeregan | 29–38 | – |
| Uldaman | 41–51 | 42–52 |
| Zul'Farrak | 44–54 | – |
| Blackrock Depths | 52–60 | – |
| Scholomance, Stratholme | 58–60 | – |
| Upper Blackrock Spire | 59–60 | – |
Dungeons also count toward the Legacy System. Defeating the final boss of every dungeon in the 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60 brackets earns you 3 Legacy Points, so it is worth running each dungeon at least once. How Legacy works: beginner's guide.
Raids from December 9, 2026
Raids do not open on launch day, but 5 weeks later.
| Raid | Players | Bosses | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Barrow Deeps | 10 | 8 | confirmed by Blizzard, a max-level challenge |
| Hyjal Summit | 20 | 13 | confirmed by Blizzard, on Mount Hyjal |
| Onyxia's Lair | 40 | – | only on the roadmap graphic, unconfirmed |
The boss counts come from Blizzard's Legacy Challenges ("Defeat all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses", "Defeat all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses"). The new raids also bring new tier sets and "a legendary reward".
Icy Veins and Warcraft Wiki list Onyxia's Lair for 40 players on December 9 based on the roadmap graphic. Blizzard's panel recap names only two new raids. The Legacy Challenges do include "Defeat Onyxia", but Blizzard's texts give neither a date nor a raid size for it.
Blizzard has not announced the raid opening time, lockouts or attunements yet. Further plans (more raids, a revamped "iconic" raid) are covered in what is WoW Forever.
Finding a group without a dungeon finder
There is no automatic Dungeon Finder like in retail. There is also no teleport to the dungeon and no summoning through Meeting Stones. Warcraft Tavern described it after the BlizzCon demo: the Looking For Group window from WoW Classic "allows you to organize groups but does not form them automatically or teleport everyone to the dungeon". Wowhead, citing a TechRadar interview, gives the reason: fast teleports shrink the world and step on the Warlock's role.
What the beta tool offers (Group Finder / Looking For Group):
- A list of dungeons showing whether your group qualifies. On October 16, 2026 Blizzard fixed this for groups with members of different levels.
- A "Show All Level Ranges" checkbox if you want to see dungeons outside your range.
- You can tag a group listing with "In-Game Voice Mode", and the leader can enable Discord Voice for the whole party (Audio settings).
Players are split. In the "Wow forever dungeon finder?" thread on Blizzard's forums, some say they will quit without an automatic finder ("Not going to spend hours spamming chat"), while others think the LFG list is enough. Veterans advise new players to find a guild, because a good guild "makes the experience night and day". To pick a first class for dungeons, see which class to play.
