Where you trade
| What you want to do | Where |
|---|---|
| Buy or sell an item | pathofexile.com/trade2 or the in-game market panel (the / key) |
| Swap currency (orbs, fragments, runes, uncut gems) | Currency Exchange with Ange, from Act 4 |
| Sell while you are offline | a Merchant's Tab from the store and Ange in your hideout |
You cannot trade gold with other players. You only use it to pay trade and exchange fees.
The trade2 website step by step
- Go to pathofexile.com/trade2 and sign in with Email, Steam, Epic Games, Xbox Live or Playstation Network. Without signing in, the site shows nothing.
- Pick a league. On 16.10.2026 the options are: Forbidden Rites, HC Forbidden Rites, Runes of Aldur, HC Runes of Aldur, Standard and Hardcore. Search in the one you play in.
- In Type Filters, set the category (Item Category), rarity (Item Rarity) and item level. In Stat Filters, add the modifiers you need with min/max values.
- In Trade Filters, choose the seller status (table below) and the price currency. By default the site converts prices to "Exalted Orb Equivalent".
- Run the search and pick a listing.
| Seller status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Instant Buyout | you buy right away from Ange, the seller does not have to be in game |
| In Person (Online in League) | the seller is playing in this league now, you message them |
| In Person (Online) | the seller is online, not necessarily in this league |
| Instant Buyout and In Person | both kinds of listings |
| Any | all listings regardless of status |
Instant Buyout: buying from Ange
Asynchronous trade has been in the game since version 0.3.0 "The Third Edict" (29.08.2025).
Buying:
- An Instant Buyout listing has a Travel to Hideout button instead of a whisper, and it takes you to the seller's hideout. The name "Secure Item" in older guides comes from the 0.3 reveal before launch.
- In the hideout you buy from the NPC Ange, and the chosen item has a purple frame. The seller can be offline.
- The buyer pays the gold fee. You see it in the listing, and it does not go to the seller. In 0.5.0 the fee for weapons went up by about 50%.
- If several people want the same item, whoever finishes the purchase first gets it.
Selling:
- You can only list from a Merchant's Tab: 40 points each or 200 for a pack of 6. There is no free one.
- A Premium Stash Tab bought before 0.3.0 can be converted into a Merchant's Tab on the website (My Account). A Premium Quad Tab cannot.
- You need a hideout. If you do not have one, complete the Hostile Takeover quest. Asynchronous trade unlocks the first time you talk to Ange in a given league.
- You price every item separately. You cannot sell currency this way: that is what the Currency Exchange is for.
- Changing a price or removing an item works with a cooldown. Right after listing, you get a short window to back out before the listing reaches the search index.
- You collect your earnings from Ange: Manage Shop → Earnings Tab. Merchant's Tabs do not show up in your stash, you open them at Ange (shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Left Click).
In Person trading: whisper, party, hideout
- On the listing, click Direct Whisper (the message goes straight to the game) or use the arrow next to it to pick Copy Whisper and paste the text into chat. Do not edit the message: it tells the seller which tab and slot the item is in.
- The seller invites you to a party. If you miss the notification, open the Social window (the J key).
- You travel to the seller's hideout.
- The seller sends a trade request (right-click the character → "Trade").
- In the trade window, hover over every item from the other side: until you do, it stays greyed out. Check the type and number of orbs, then click Accept. A green frame means you have accepted.
To sell this way, you need a public Premium tab: right-click the tab name → Public → e.g. "Each Item Individually Priced", then right-click an item → Exact Price or Negotiable Price. When you cannot trade, take your listings down.
Currency Exchange: swapping currency
- Talking to Ange in Kingsmarch (Act 4) unlocks the exchange. Other characters in the same league get it right away. Guides disagree on whether you can exchange earlier at other NPCs.
- You open it with Ctrl+Left Click on Ange. Choose currencies in the I Want and I Have fields, set the rate in Market Ratio, then click Place Order.
- You pay the gold fee when you place the order. It depends on the type of currency and the number of units.
- Cancelling (the X next to the order) gives your currency back, but the gold is lost.
- You can swap orbs, fragments, essences, runes, omens and, since 0.3.0, uncut gems. You cannot buy gear here.
- 0.5.5 added a Stash/Inventory toggle: you pay from your stash or from your inventory.
Trade currencies and exchange rates
Prices are given in Exalted, Chaos and Divine Orbs (short: ex, chaos, div). Rates from poe.ninja, which takes its data from the Currency Exchange with a delay of up to one hour:
| League (16.10.2026) | 1 Divine Orb in Exalted | 1 Divine Orb in Chaos |
|---|---|---|
| Runes of Aldur | approx. 522.5 | approx. 8.78 |
| Forbidden Rites | approx. 753.2 | approx. 10.5 |
Rates change every day and differ between leagues. In January 2025 the Divine to Exalted rate jumped from 145 to 198 overnight. Before you list an expensive item, check the current rate.
The trap: Exalted instead of Divine
At the 16.10.2026 rate, 1 Exalted is about 1/500 of a Divine. A currency mix-up therefore costs you almost the whole value of the item. On 27.09.2026 a player wrote on the official forum that they had listed an item for 8 Exalted instead of 155 Divine. The cooldown did not let them fix the price, and the item sold. A GGG staff member referred them to support.
Before listing, check the currency next to the price. In an In Person trade window, hover over the orbs: scammers slip in Exalted instead of Divine, or a smaller amount after reopening the trade. Also watch out for suspiciously cheap listings: players describe fake prices meant only to push the market down.
Price check in game and Exiled Exchange 2
Since 0.5.0, Shift + Alt + click on an item fills in the market search filters. For Rare items you can switch individual modifiers on and off. On a controller, since 0.5.1 you can open the Trade site straight from the market panel.
A popular overlay is Exiled Exchange 2, a fork of Awakened PoE Trade for PoE2. It reads the item text from the clipboard, and you price check with Ctrl+D. Download it only from the author's GitHub: sites with similar names are unofficial. GGG does not approve any community apps. The tool's FAQ considers apps safe if they follow the Terms of Use: one action per key press and no interference with the game client.
Consoles, SSF and Hardcore
| Situation | Trading |
|---|---|
| PC, PS5, Xbox | one shared market, Instant Buyout also works on consoles |
| Store purchases | items bought on PlayStation do not work on other platforms and vice versa (tabs included) |
| SSF (solo) | no Merchant's Tabs and no trading; you can move your character to a trade league ("Migrate All") |
| Hardcore | separate trade leagues: HC Forbidden Rites, HC Runes of Aldur, Hardcore |
More on playing across platforms: consoles and crossplay.
Trading for real money is banned
Buying and selling items or accounts for real money (RMT) is not allowed, and GGG says it bans people for it. The Terms of Use allow trading items only for your own, non-commercial purposes and forbid bots. You cannot "buy" gold either: buying an item and selling it to a vendor loses you gold.
Will version 1.0 change trading?
On December 11, 2026 Path of Exile 2 leaves Early Access as a free game, with the Duelist, Acts V and VI and a big balance patch. GGG has not announced any trading changes, so this guide should stay valid. We will check it against the 1.0 patch notes.
Before you start trading, read the beginner's guide, see what to spend orbs on in crafting, and set up a loot filter so you do not miss items worth selling.
