Castlevania: Belmont's Curse on Switch and Switch 2: how it runs and is it worth it

In short: which version

Xbox Series X/S60 fps88 (6 reviews)
PC (Steam, Xbox on PC)60 fps and higher82 (29 reviews)

Nintendo Switch 2no separate version, demo about 60 fps—

The target frame rates come from KONAMI. Xbox and Switch have only a handful of reviews, so their averages can still change a lot.

Switch: 30 frames per second

In July 2026 KONAMI stated it plainly: the game targets 60 fps, and 30 fps on Nintendo Switch. That line is still on the official website. The game is full of precise jumps and dodges, so the difference between 30 and 60 frames is noticeable.

Switch 2: no separate version, but 60 fps in the demo

  • There is no "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" and no free Switch 2 update. On Switch 2 you run the regular Switch version.
  • Nintendo Life tested the demo on Switch 2: it held about 60 fps with default settings, twice the frame rate of the original Switch.
  • KONAMI has not officially confirmed this. Nintendo Life also notes that the image is soft: characters look fuzzy and lack detail, especially when the camera pulls back. There are frame drops when the game switches to real-time cutscenes.
  • In its review of the full game, Siliconera writes that there are performance issues at times on Switch 2.

The Switch 2 results come mostly from the demo. The full game has later, larger areas. If smooth performance matters to you, download the free demo on Switch 2 before buying. Your progress carries over to the full game.

Switch, PS5 or PC

  • Switch 2: a good pick if you want to play on the go. In the demo the frame rate was close to PS5, but the visuals are weaker.
  • Switch (original): the game runs at 30 fps. If you own another platform, this version has the fewest advantages.
  • PS5 / Xbox Series X|S: a stable 60 fps and the highest critic scores. Consoles do not have the PC black screen problem.
  • PC: the cheapest option during sales and support for more than 60 fps. At launch, though, many players get a black screen at startup and "ghost" controller inputs. Read this before buying: black screen and other bugs.

Physical version and price

The Midnight Edition is released physically, on Switch too. It has the same contents as the digital Midnight Edition. In the US the versions cost $29.99 (Standard) and $39.99 (Midnight). What the Midnight Edition includes and every costume: Midnight Edition and costumes.

Prices, languages and length: everything about the game.
