Which platforms is Modern Warfare 4 on
The full game launches on Friday, October 23, 2026 at midnight local time, which is 00:00 in Poland. The campaign has been playable in early access since October 16 on every platform in the table, Switch 2 included. Steam and the Xbox Store in Europe show October 22, but that is not an earlier launch (details: release date and editions).

There is no boxed PC version. Discs exist only for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

We haven't confirmed złoty prices for Battle.net or the eShop. On Switch 2 the Standard Edition costs $69.99 in the US and £69.99 in the UK (Digital Foundry).
Nintendo Switch 2: yes, on launch day
Modern Warfare 4 comes to Switch 2 on October 23, 2026, alongside every other platform. According to Digital Foundry, it is the first Call of Duty released on a Nintendo console on the same day as elsewhere since Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U (2013).
On Switch 2 you get all three modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ. Activision lists:
- Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, optional,
- gyro controls,
- the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller,
- HDR and handheld play,
- crossplay and cross-progression with other platforms.
To play online (Multiplayer and DMZ) you need Nintendo Switch Online, sold separately. Save Data Cloud also requires NSO. The Switch 2 version has a Polish interface and subtitles.
The box contains a code, not a cartridge. According to Nintendo Life, the retail Switch 2 version is a "code-in-a-box": the box holds a download code. That matches Activision, which lists disc editions only for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Keep space free on your card: the eShop estimate is about 84.9 GB.
An eShop pre-order downloads before launch, and a small update follows on launch day.
Switch 2: resolution and FPS
Neither Activision nor Nintendo has officially stated resolution or frame rate for Switch 2. All we have are reports from outlets:

There was no full analysis of the final version (for example from Digital Foundry) as of October 19, 2026. We'll update this after launch.
Warzone: according to Activision Support, Warzone integration arrives in Season 1, and the Switch 2 beta included Warzone Resurgence. We found no explicit announcement of "full Warzone on Switch 2 from Season 1".
PS4 and Xbox One: not available
Modern Warfare 4 is not coming to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Activision says it plainly: "It will not be available on PlayStation® 4 or XBOX One." It is the first Call of Duty to launch only on current-gen consoles (Metro).
So there is no PS4 to PS5 upgrade: MW4 editions in the PlayStation Store carry a PS5 label. The "Cross-Gen / Standard" label on callofduty.com is, in our reading, simply the Standard Edition.
Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One is ending. Since June 4, 2026 you can't download it from the stores (if it's in your library, you can still install it), and the in-game store was removed on June 25. Warzone runs through the end of Black Ops 7 Season 06, and from Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, which starts November 6, 2026, it is no longer playable on the old consoles.
Moving to a new console? With the same Activision account, your full progression and content bought with COD Points carry over to any supported platform. Unspent COD Points from PS4 or Xbox One can only be used within the same console family: PS4 to PS5, Xbox One to Series X|S.
PS5 and PS5 Pro
On PS5 the game supports DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, 3D audio, HDR, 4K, 120Hz and VRR, plus Remote Play. You need PS Plus to play online.
On PS5 Pro (PS5 Pro Enhanced badge), the PlayStation Blog promises upgraded PSSR, higher graphics quality in the 120Hz and 60Hz modes, and an unlocked frame rate when VRR and 120Hz are enabled. Activision hasn't given specific resolutions or FPS for PS5 and PS5 Pro, and there are no independent measurements yet.
Split-screen, meaning two players on one screen in Multiplayer, works only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass
Modern Warfare 4 is not on Game Pass at launch. Activision: the game "will not be included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027". Outlets describe the timing differently (for example "within 12 months"), but officially it is "Holiday 2027". Game Pass Ultimate keeps the older entries: Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III.
- Xbox Play Anywhere: one purchase in the Xbox Store gives you the game on console and on PC in the Xbox app. It doesn't apply to Steam or Battle.net purchases.
- Online play on console requires Game Pass Essential.
- Cloud: Xbox Cloud Gaming works with Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, but you still have to buy the game.
PC: Steam, Battle.net and the Xbox app
On PC you can buy the game in three stores: Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC. Everywhere you need Windows, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, and 115 GB on an SSD. On Steam your account must have a phone number linked.
Steam Deck has no Valve rating, and because of the TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirement the game most likely won't run on SteamOS. Full specs and settings: PC requirements and best settings.
Crossplay and cross-progression
What is confirmed:
- Crossplay and cross-progression work on every platform, Switch 2 included.
- Your progress is saved to your Activision account. You can keep playing on any platform you link to it.
- Carried over: items bought with COD Points, Battle Pass progress and unlocks.
- Not carried over: COD Points themselves (only on the platform where you bought them) and most content bought with real money.
If you link your PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam or Nintendo account to a different Activision account, your progress will not carry over. You can reuse your beta account, and on another account you won't get the beta rewards.
What we don't know yet: Activision has no dedicated crossplay article for MW4. There is no official word on whether crossplay can be turned off on every platform or whether there is input-based matchmaking. Jack O'Hara of Infinity Ward told GamesRadar: "we'll see at launch exactly where the mix ends up".
During the beta (August 2026), players reported that crossplay can be turned off on Switch 2 (matchmaking then takes longer), and that consoles have a "Console only" option, meaning no PC players. We'll check the menu after the October 23 launch.

- Multiplayer (including Private Matches) and DMZ require a constant internet connection, because the game streams textures.
- The campaign is single-player only and works offline (Infinity Ward to GameSpot).
